How Vegan are you in reality?

Do you play any organized sports like football, soccer, softball where the ball is made from animal hyde?

Do you have any leather handbags, wallets, cell phone cases, shoes, car seats?

Do you print photographs at home on vegan photo paper? (many varities contain gelatin)

Do you wear wool or silk?

Do you play a classical string instrument like a viola, violin, bass violin with a horsehair bow?

Do you listen to classical music where horsehair bows are used?

Do you have a garden at home and do you use manure to fertilize it?

Do you seek vegetables that are grown without hiring out polinization services to bee keepers? Most large farms do hire out to bee-keepers. These are the same bee keepers that produce honey. The polinization services augment their honey income.

Or, do you use commercial fertilizer where many brands contain bone meal or animal blood?

Do you eat store purchased vegetables that have been grown with either of the above fertilizers?

Do you use any skincare products that contain lanolin or collagen (both animal biproducts)

Do you buy furniture that contains shellac (made from an insect)

Do you have any hair brushes that are made from boars hair

Do you buy vegan glue and seek products that are made with a vegan glue

Do any of your household cleaners contain calcium phosphate?

Do you own any natural sponges or loofah’s or have you had your walls sponge painted by a professional?

Do you own any Down pillows or comforters?

Do you wear cologne or perfume? If so, do you use a vegan one (not many choices here)

Do you make sure your shampoo does not contain Panthenol (Most do)?

Do you take birth control pills? (most contain estrogen)
I did not think these things up myself. A poster to one of my questions enlightened me on a these items, and it prompted me to post this question.

I am not vegan but this is great. A real eye opener.

Are you vegan? Or are you defending those who use animal bi-products in everyday life?

  5. It seems is as hard to go vegan as it is to go plastic-free. :(

But even if you don’t manage to avoid all those things, you still make a huge difference by just adjusting you diet.

I’m not vegan, just vegetarian. But I applaud anyone who says no to all these, or even the majority of them! I could say no to about 3 haha, and that was on accident. :)

  8. I’m gluten free vegan and most of these things above I don’t do or have. Of course we have cleaners with chemicals and what not and there is leather in the house but I don’t wear it and I can’t force anyone to do or change anything if they don’t want to….just like I wouldnt like it if they made me wear or eat what I DIDN’T want.

  9. Yes, Mark, I must admit. I am guilty of nearly all of the things you mention. I also eat meat and wear leather.

But then again, I don’t come on to yahoo answers claiming not to use animals, or pretending to be morally and intellectually superior, or insulting and ridiculing non-vegetarians.
I’ll leave the self-serving double standards to somebody else.
